SEPTEMBER 6

FALL CONCERT, 7 p.m. featuring Ken Vaiden, a native of Chase City and Peggy Vaughan, of Keysville at Victoria Baptist Church, intersection of Eighth Street and Washington Avenue. Handicapped parking available as is elevator access to the sanctuary. In the event of storm-related hazards or power outages, the concert will take place on Sept. 13. 10TH PASTORAL ANNIVERSARY 3 p.m. at Mt. Gazerine Baptist Church located at 3606 Kenbridge Road, Blackstone, for Dr. Irene B. Allen. Guest pastor and church will be Dr. A. Lincoln James, Jr. and the Trinity Baptist Church of Richmond. Dinner will be served. Everyone is welcome.

SEPTEMBER 10

FREE SAFETY PROGRAM, 6:30 p.m. at Kenbridge Town Center Auditorium. Observe/Assess/React/Seminar (OARS), sponsored by Turning Point Healing Retreat Center and Sheriff Arthur Townsend. Protect yourself. Develop a plan of action for safety wherever you go.

SEPTEMBER 14

LIGHTING OF THE LAKE, 5 p.m. at Twin Lakes State Park. Paper lanterns will be available to decorate in memory of the lives lost on Sept. 11, 2001. The ceremony will begin at 7 p.m., followed by the opportunity to launch the lanterns on the lake. Meet at the concession stand. There will be no parking fee during the ceremony. SAUNDERS MEMORIAL WHITE CANE WALK, 7:30 a.m. beginning at Food Lion in Victoria and ends at Shopper Value in Kenbridge. Your donations will assist researchers in preventing visual impairments. DEADLINE FOR PHOTO CONTEST, noon, sponsored by Lunenburg County Historical Society. Submit your photo at either Victoria or Ripberger (Kenbridge) library. Rules and applications available there in advance of deadline.

OCTOBER 5

TOUCH A TRUCK, 10 a.m-4 p.m. at Meherrin Volunteer Fire & Rescue. Vehicles to include, emergency vehicles, farm equipment, construction equipment and lots more. This is a family fun event featuring food, fun activities and more.
