Former Victoria resident Marvin Reese recently won the Costa Fishing League Worldwide (FLW) Series Northern Division Tournament on the Potomac. During the three-day tournament Reese caught a total of 14 bass with a combined weight of 38 pounds and 15 ounces. Reese took home a prize check worth $38,026 and his first FLW title on the boater side.
Reese, a graduate of Central High School, said “anytime you win it is a good thing.” Reese who started fishing at a young age in farm ponds in Lunenburg County, loves fishing. Reese started entering competitions in 2007 and has been competing for approximately 12 years. “You have to practice to be good at it,” said Reese. Reese learned to fish from his father and credits his father with teaching him the basics.
Reese currently lives in Maryland said “fishing full time is not an option.” “It is quite expensive and time consuming to fish professionally,” said Reese. “I work in real estate and have a family, I don’t want to give all my free time up fishing,” said Reese. Earning over one hundred thousand dollars in the last 10 to 12 years shows Reese has the winning touch.
