The winner of this years Lunenburg Republican Scholarship Raffle is Greg Elam of Victoria. Elam was presented with an American Tactical AR15 on Nov. 19 at the Victoria Restaurant presented by Mike Hankins, Chair of the Lunenburg Republicans and other members of the unit. The Republicans raised over $2,000 that will be given to students in Lunenburg County who plan to continue their education after high school. The scholarship program was started by the Lunenburg Republicans in 2013 when the group raised enough money to give a $500 scholarship. The program has grown and in 2017, 2018, and again in 2019 the group has given $2,000 to students each year. So far the group has helped 10 students with college expenses. These Lunenburg students have majored in subjects from nursing, to sports medicine and foreign affairs. The money is raised by $5 donations for the annual raffle. The 2020 scholarship winners will be announced in the spring of 2020. Watch the local newspapers for information or ask the high school guidance counselors for an application. The next meeting of the Lunenburg Republicans will be at Marino’s on Dec. 2 at 6 p.m. Everyone is welcome to attend. Pictured are, from left, Wally Shifflet, Hankins, Elam and Patrick Williams.
