James Massa, a resident of Victoria and formerly of Mecklenburg County, has been charged with grand larceny of a vehicle.

According to Victoria Police Officer Matthew Gatling a report of a hit-and-run at the gas pumps of a Victoria convenience store Friday, Nov. 29, at approximately 9:30 p.m., led to the arrest of Massa.

Following an investigation by Victoria Police Officer King it was determined that a 2003 Duramax Diesel truck involved in the hit-and-run had been stolen from a residence on Grove Avenue.

Evidence at the scene of the vehicle theft led Officer King to review video surveillance at the convenience store, which led to a description of the suspect. A photo of the suspect was posted on Facebook, which led authorities to Massa.

Following an interview by police Massa admitted to the theft and was taken into custody. Massa is being held at Piedmont Regional Jail. Other charges are pending.

The stolen vehicle was recovered Saturday morning off Twin Cemetery Road in Victoria.

With the holidays approaching the Victoria Police Department would like to remind all citizens to remove valuables and keys from your vehicle and report any suspicious activity.
