Do you ever see things at work, in your school, in your community and think, “somebody should do something about this?”

Has it ever happened in your life where you heard of a need or even seen a family or individual who looks like they could use some assistance and thought, “somebody should help them?” Most likely we all know of someone who could use some help. The odds are favorable you know of somewhere nearby that appears to need a little help, a little work, a little service, a little revamping. Churches are often contacted to help and although they try to do their best they themselves often don’t have the funds nor the help to get things done. So what in the world are we to do? With all that needs assistance, who can help?

In his song, “City Don’t Sleep,” Macklemore says, “Now if you wanna see change? Then throw your ones in the air. You think the system that we’re living in is not fair? You wanna see change? Then put your ones in the air. Now point it to the ground, cause change starts right there!”

Change starts right where you are located. Hold your pointer finger up (put your ones in the air) then turn that pointer finger straight down pointing to the ground under your feet. Change starts right there. In other words — be the good needed right where you are.

Deuteronomy 15:11 challenges with, “There will always be poor people in the land. Therefore I command you to be openhanded toward your fellow Israelites who are poor and needy in your land.” Galatians 6:2 asks us to bear each others burdens. Check out Hebrews 13:6, John 15:12, Luke 6:38, Matthew 5:16, Philippians 2:4, Proverbs 3:27, Romans 12:13 and many more.

See a spot at the Courthouse, a school, a church building, local fire or rescue department that could use a nice flower bed? I’m sure local nurseries would even help donate items for you to plant and make that area beautiful. What about folks who are shut-in or at a nursing home needing a visit? Why not pick an hour a month to go see them? Do you enjoy baking? Visit folks and deliver cookies or brownies. What about that family needing help? Set up a fundraising effort to assist. And do you know the best way to do this? Anonymously! You may not get the credit but who cares?

Allow God to use you in filling needs around you. Many folks see needs and come up with great ideas to help — so join together and help! Change starts right here. #bethegood
