Lunenburg County Virginia to Jennings and Gilbertha Ingram Morrison. She was educated in Lunenburg County Public Schools. She furthered her education and became a beautician. She worked at Commonwealth Tobacco factory for many years in Kenbridge, Virginia.

At an early age she was baptized and joined Unity Baptist Church Kenbridge, Virginia where she was an active member until her health declined. Bessie served as Deaconess, Church Clerk, Sunday School Secretary, and also on the Usher Board until her sight began to fail. She continued as a missionary and a Deaconess.

Bessie was married to Deacon Thomas Ragsdale.

She was preceded in death by her parents Jennings and Gilbertha Ingram Morrison; her husband Deacon Thomas Ragsdale; sisters, Lillian and Cassie Morrison, Hattie Blackwell, and Della Lee; brothers, John Thomas, George Arkley, Royal E., Willie S. and Herman Morrison.

Deaconess Bessie M. Ragsdale departed this life on Saturday January 11, 2020 at Heritage Hall Nursing Home Blackstone, Virginia.

She leaves to cherish her loving memories: a devote sister, Arlean Smith of Kenbridge, Virginia, in-laws, Sterling (Constance) Ragsdale of Washington, DC; Melvin Ranson of Wheaton, Maryland; Edward Wilson of Kenbridge, Virginia; Gloria Morrison of Kenbridge, Virginia and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral servcies were held Saturday, January 18, at 1 p.m. at Unity Baptist Church, Kenbridge, with the Rev. Ray A. Smith, Pastor and the Rev. David L. Banks, Sr., Eulogist. Interment was in Unity Baptist Church Cemetery, Kenbridge.
