Karen Lorraine Bragg Gordon, affectionally called “Kareene”, was born in Kenbridge, VA on September 13, 1946, to the late William Arthur and Sarah Frances Bragg. The oldest of 3 children, the Lord called Karen home to Glory on January 22, 2020 at the VCU Health Hundley Center in South Hill, VA.

Karen was baptized in 1953 at the New Grove Baptist Church in Kenbridge, VA where she served in many church ministries and activities. She was an active member of the Baptist Training Union (BTU) and Sunday School. Karen remained a member of the New Grove Baptist Church until she relocated to Richmond, VA and joined the Sharon Baptist Church in 1982. She became a member of the C.B. Belcher Memorial Usher Board shortly after joining the church and served faithfully until 2018. She served as president of the Usher Board for 4 years. Karen also served as an active member of the Seniors of Sharon Ministry and the Pastor’s Aid Ministry. Karen had a committed and passionate relationship with her church family and remained a dedicated member until she relocated back to Kenbridge, VA.

Karen was educated in the Lunenburg County School System and received her diploma from the Lunenburg High School in 1965. After high school, Karen attended the Smith Madden Business School in Richmond, Virginia where she received a Certificate in Business Administration in 1968.

Karen was joined in holy matrimony to the late Clyde B. Gordon on July 20, 1979. Clyde preceded her in death in July 1982.

Karen was employed as a Claims Processor by the Lawyers Title Insurance Corporation for more than 25 years. She continued her work in the insurance industry for another 15 years with Allianz Life Insurance until her retirement in 2008.

Karen loved spending fun times with family and friends and was especially excited about planning family reunions. Her uncanny ability to recall special dates and events and the names of several generations of family members was truly amazing. Karen loved traveling on bus trips with her church family and always looked forward to visiting new places of adventure. She also enjoyed crocheting in her spare time.

Karen leaves to cherish her memories: one sister, Margaret J. Waller of Kenbridge, VA; one brother, Errol R. Bragg (Audrey) of Seabrook, MD; 1 adopted brother– Rev. Dr. Curtis W. Bagley, Jr. (Freda) of Alexandria, VA; 3 nephews – Cedric R. Bragg (Nadiyah) of Bowie, MD; Carlton E. Bragg (Brooke) of Richmond, VA; Thomas L. Waller of Kenbridge, VA; 4 special grand-nieces and nephew – Elise & Malik Bragg of Bowie, MD and Cara & Nina Bragg of Richmond, VA, and a host of relatives, family, and friends.

Funeral servcies were conducted Saturday, February 1, 2020 at 2:00 p.m. at New Grove Baptist Church, Kenbridge, Virginia with the Rev. Dr. Curtis W. Bagley. Jr., Pastor. Interment was in the church cemetery.
