Franklin Ferguson Gordon, born November 25, 1943 to Bernard and Blanch Gilliam Gordon of Kenbridge, Virginia. He was one of seven children.
Franklin (better known as Frank) attended Lunenburg County public school. He was married to Georgia Hendrick September 24, 1962. To this union four children were born; Leo, Leior, Tommy and Markita.
At an early age Frank joined Oak Grove Baptist Church, Kenbridge, Virginia. He was employed at Virginia Marble for nearly thirty years until his health began to fail.
He enjoyed driving and sitting around town with his closest friends Larry Hill and George (Pap) Seay. Frank always had a “come back line” to anyone who felt the need to say the wrong thing to him. He also loved taking rides with his favorite nephew Roscoe, who was there for him every step of the way. “Big Head” as Roscoe would call him, enjoyed going to races and eating everything he was not supposed to.
Franklin departed this life February 7, 2020 at Dinwiddie Health and Rehab Center in Petersburg, Virginia.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Bernard and Blanch Gordon; brothers, John and Robert (Boogie); sisters, Katherine (Sue) Reavis and Pinkie (Pearl) Stewart; daughter in-law, Gertrude (Frenchie) Gordon; sisters-in-law, Lucille Rainey, Gertrude Cooper; brothers-in-law, Eddie Hendrick, Jr., Haynie Stewart, Fredrick and Wardell Reavis; nieces and nephews.
Franklin leaves to cherish his memories: ex-wife, Georgia Gordon; two sons, Leo and Tommy Gordon of Oxon Hill, Maryland; two daughters, Leior (John) White and Markita Gordon of Kenbridge, Virginia; five grandchildren, Liyonte’ White of Petersburg, Virginia; Cherelle, Leo II and Xavier Gordon of Oxon Hill, Maryland; Jaelin Ross of Blackstone, Virginia; two great-grandchildren, Samira and Rafeal Gordon of Oxon Hill, Maryland; two sisters, Emma Jones of Blackstone, Virginia and Rosa Reavis of Richmond, Virginia; two sisters-in-law, Minnie Gordon and Virginia Hendrick both of Kenbridge, Virginia; two brothers-in-law, William Hendrick of Kenbridge, Virginia and Samuel (Faye) Hendrick of Warrenton, North Carolina and a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.
Funeral services were held Tuesday, February 11, 11 a.m. at S.P. Jones Funeral Chapel with the Rev. Irene B. Allen providing words of comfort. Interment was in the Gordon Family Cemetery, Kenbridge.
S.P. Jones and Son Funeral Home served the family.
