Farmville resident Eboni Lee has been installed as the 2020 president of the Virginia Jaycees.
Lee is the 86th chief officer for the organization. Her installation took place Feb. 15 during the Virginia Jaycees Winter State Meeting in Virginia Beach.
“I’m very excited to work with the Jaycees here in Virginia,” Lee said. “The year 2020 is one of vision. I’ve been a Jaycee for 12 years. As I learned more about the work of the Jaycees and put that excitement to work in my hometown, I knew I wanted to help other members around the state do more in their own hometowns.
“My goal is to inspire others to visualize where they want their Jaycee career to take them and how they want to develop themselves personally and professionally. During this year, my team and I will help them take actionable steps to realizing the goals they have set.”
Lee made the decision to seek the state presidency after attending the JCI USA annual meeting in Corpus Christi, Texas in September 2019. She said seeing the organization at a higher level and interacting with members from across the United States was an eye opener for her.
“I dreamed of leading the charge of getting more members from Virginia involved in national activities to expand their horizons outside of their local chapters.”
Lee joined The Farmville Jaycees in 2008 and has served as president, vice president, and chair of the marketing committee for the chapter. In February 2019, Lee was honored with life membership status in the Virginia Jaycees.
As president of the Virginia Jaycees, she will represent the organization in meetings and events around the state, as well as on a national scale. She attended a presidents’ retreat in St. Louis, in December and was a member of the inaugural class of the North American Academy for leadership in Washington D.C. in January.
“Serving as president of the Virginia Jaycees is just another way of me giving back. My favorite line of our creed is, ‘Service to humanity is the best work of life.’ That truly resonates with me and is the reason I do what I do,” Lee said.
Active in many community organizations, Lee is a member of the Farmville Alumnae Chapter of Delta Sigma Theta Sorority, Inc., secretary of Farmville Downtown Partnership, and serves on the Moton Council for the R.R. Moton Museum. She is also a member of Longwood University’s Alumni Board of Directors and Longwood’s Lancer Club Advisory Board.
Professionally, Lee is a marketing officer at Benchmark Community Bank in Kenbridge. She graduated from Prince Edward County High School in 1997 and Longwood University in 2001. She is the daughter of Clarence and Cheryl Lee of Farmville and the granddaughter of Gladys Rainey of Rice.
Founded in 1920, JCI USA is an international non-profit membership society offering development opportunities for young active citizens to create positive change in their communities. The organization offers training, networking, and professional skills opportunities to its members who range in age from 18 to 41 and who are from all sectors of society.
