Local elections set for May 5

Elections for town officials are scheduled for Tuesday, May 5 and are still on as scheduled.

During his press conference Monday, Virginia Governor Ralph S. Northam said he would offer guidance on the May elections in the coming days. Northam said state officials are in active discussions with board of elections officials to determine how to handle the elections while in the midst of a Stay-at-Home Order that does not expire until June 10.

In Kenbridge, current Vice Mayor Ken Blackburn has filed for the position of mayor to replace Emory Hodges, who has decided not to seek re-election.

Wanda Morrison and Raymond Hite Jr. have filed  for re-election. Paul E. Perusse is running for the town council as well. 

In Victoria, current councilmembers Sandra Jones, Christopher Gill and Ronald Mattox are running for re-election. Jeramiah Fix is running for a position on the council. Allen Smith is running for Mayor of Victoria. Current mayor Carol Watson is not running for re-election. 

Voters are encouraged to request absentee ballots from the registrar’s office. 

Any voter that needs to make a change to their information must do so by April 13. The last day for absentee ballots to be mailed from the registrar to voters is April 28.
