Positively diagnosed cases of COVID-19 rose from three to five in Prince Edward County and from six to eight in Cumberland County Friday as the state-wide death toll from the pandemic reached 121 people.

A second case was also reported in Charlotte County.

The state coronavirus tracker shows 10 cases in Buckingham County,  but local officials have reported 11 cases. The trackers also shows only two cases of the virus in Lunenburg County where local officials reported three cases as of Tuesday evening.

Deaths have risen from 54 to 121 the past four days but much of the increase is due to the death toll of 39 people from the Canterbury nursing home in Henrico County not being put into the number until this week. The Piedmont Health District has only suffered one death from the virus.

Positive cases statewide rose by 467 cases. Virginia’s peak for the virus is projected to be somewhere around April 20, according to a model from Washington University. That same model has revised the projected deaths from the virus in Virginia downward from 1,401 to 891.

Statistics from the Virginia Hospital and Healthcare Association show 457 patients who have the disease across the state are in ICU and 287 patients are on a ventilator. The hospital system still has more than 5,800 beds available in Virginia.
