Brandon Allen Givens was born on October 10, 1980 in San Antonio, Texas to KaSandera Givens and Daryl Oliver. Brandon received Jesus Christ at an early age and joined Willow Park Baptist Church in San Antonio, Texas. He played the drums in church with his uncle Gary Givens. He also played at Faith Alive Church where Amos Duncan was Pastor. He graduated from Theodore Roosevelt High School in San Antonio, Texas in 1999. In 2009, Brandon graduated from Texas University in San Antonio, Texas where he earned a B. S. Degree in Kinesiology.

Even though he was away from his home congregation of Willow Park Baptist Church, he frequently attended Mt. Gazerine Baptist Church, Blackstone, Virginia, and sometimes offered his skills as a drummer.

Brandon joined the Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity while at Texas University in San Antonio, Texas and was active in the organization. In April 2005, while at Texas University, Brandon with guidance from Khalid Zakaria, a Morehouse graduate and Phi Beta Sigma brother, began their legacy. The following fraternity brothers founded the Beta Beta Omicron Chapter of Phi Beta Sigma Fraternity, Inc.; Larry Lipsey, Quinton Alexander, Israel Cruz, and James Harris. They grew the chapter to over 100 brothers making it the 2nd largest chapter in Texas.

Brandon mentored several young males into being professional men of business, integrity and service. He participated in countless educational and community service events. He was a pillar of wisdom, friendship and loyalty among the brothers in the chapter. Today, we celebrate his life, his legacy and his impact felt across the fraternity and San Antonio community.

Brandon started early in his adult life being a leader for youth especially in the field of sports. He was Head Coach for the H and H Basketball Association in San Antonio, Texas. He continued to pursue his interest in Youth Sports by participating as the Head Basketball Coach for Excel Basketball, Inc. in San Antonio, Texas; Child Instructor for Kenbridge Youth Academy in Kenbridge, Virginia; Boys Head Basketball Coach for Nottoway Middle School; Coach and Referee for the Lunenburg Recreation Basketball Program and at the time of his death, he was serving as the Girls Basketball Head Coach for Lunenburg Middle School.

Brandon also enjoyed serving in a teaching capacity for three public school systems; Assistant Second Grade Teacher for Prince Edward County Public Schools; Alternative Education Teacher for Central of Lunenburg High School and before his death, he was a successful Health and Physical Education Teacher for the Lunenburg Middle School. Brandon hoped that his students would follow their hopes and dreams as they met the goals, which they had set for themselves. He offered guidance and understanding to youth who needed someone to talk with. He also donated shoes to some of his students, if they needed them.

He was what some may be called “A Quiet Giver.” He did not seek validation or approval for his kind acts. He rarely met a stranger that he could not communicate with.

Brandon was an avid football fan of the Dallas Cowboys. He and his mother-in-law, Dr. Irene B. Allen, always had fun debating over the Dallas/ Washington rivalry. He was a San Antonio Spurs fan. He enjoyed a fondness for flashy cars, jewelry, Ralph Lauren clothing and Jordan Shoes.
