The Town of Victoria is launching a new program to honor its citizens.

The Hometown Hero Banner Program will honor residents, current or former, of the community for their service.

According to Sue Behler, program coordinator, Armed Forces, fire departments, emergency medical services, or law enforcement members are eligible to be recognized through this program.

The program will consist of displaying banners along the 34 light poles along Main Street and the connecting side streets that have streetlights.

“Due to the limited number of spaces, all banners will be first come-first serve basics,” Behler said.

Town officials plan to display the banners from mid-January through mid-June each year. “At the end of the display period, you may choose to keep your banner or allow the town to maintain possession of it for display the following year at no cost,” Behler said.

Two styles of banners are available. A double-sided single-person banner displaying the same picture and wording on both sides is available for $134.00.

A double-sided two-person banner displaying a different picture and wording on each side is available for $150.00. All banners will be the same style.

Applications for the Hometown Hero Banner Program are available on the town website, www.victoriava.net, or at the town office. Applications are due by Sept. 30 prior to the next display period. Payment in full is due with the submission of the application.
