Lunenburg-Nottoway Retired Teachers Association give scholarships

The Lunenburg-Nottoway Retired Teachers Association gave out several scholarships to local students this month. The group met on Thursday, July 20 at Bravo Italian Grill in Crewe. This year, they awarded three scholarships.

The Nottoway recipient was Joseph “JoJo” Alvis of Nottoway High School. Joseph recently completed the “Teachers for Tomorrow” course under instructor Lindsey Layne and received the “Paraprofessional Certification.” He will be attending Virginia Commonwealth University with a major in Political Science and a minor in History.

The Lunenburg recipient was Ragen Harris of Central High School. She will be attending Mary Baldwin University majoring in History. Her future plans include returning to Central as a History teacher. Also, L-NRTA contributed to the Southside Virginia Community College Scholarship Foundation Fund. The unit continues to be active and productive in the community with the membership reporting 3,918 volunteer service hours for the 2022-2023 fiscal year.
