The Church and Community Events calendar is published each Wednesday. Items must be submitted by 4:30 p.m. Monday for that Wednesday’s calendar. Email events to CommunityCalendar@ KVDispatch.com. 

NOVEMBER 29 – JANUARY 8 

WINTER COAT DRIVE — The Kappa Rho Omega chapter of the Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority is holding a winter coat drive through Jan. 8, 2024. The drop-off places are Bland-Reid Funeral Home in Farmville, Cheryl’s Beauty and Barber Shop in Dillwyn and Cumberland High in Cumberland County. Residents are asked to donate new and gently used coats, hats, gloves, scarves and other winter items for children and adults. The items collected will be donated to families in the area. 

DECEMBER 1 

VICTORIA CHRISTMAS PARADE — The Town of Victoria will hold its annual Christmas parade on Friday, Dec. 1, beginning at 7 p.m. The parade participants line up on Tidewater Avenue and go down Main Street, before making the loop. 

DECEMBER 2 

HORSE RESCUE OPEN HOUSE — White Bird Appaloosa Horse Rescue, located at 1688 Burkes Tavern Road in Burkeville, will hold an open house on Sunday, Dec. 2 from noon to 7 p.m. There will be chili, hot drinks, cookies, popcorn and music, to go along with pony rides, a raffle, different games and vendors. DECEMBER 3 

WORSHIP SERVICE — Victoria Baptist Church, located at 1423 8th Street in Victoria, will hold worship services on Sunday, Dec. 3, with Sunday School at 9:45 a.m. and worship at 11 a.m. Dr. Tom Stocks will begin his sermons for Advent. 

GUEST PREACHER — New Galilee Baptist Church, located at 4565 Plank Road in Kenbridge, will feature Rev. Angela Dickens from Blackstone as guest speaker for the Sunday, Dec. 3 service. Service starts at 11 a.m. 

CHRISTMAS CONCERT — The Commonwealth Chorale of Virginia will present its annual Christmas concert featuring something for everyone — from Handel’s ‘Messiah’ to Irving Berlin’s ‘White Christmas.” The first concert will be held Sunday, Dec. 3, at Clarksville Presbyterian Church. That’s located at 502 Virginia Ave. in Clarksville. The concert is free and begins at 4 p.m. 

DECEMBER 7 

CREWE CHRISTMAS PARADE — The Town of Crewe will hold a Winter Wonderland Christmas Parade on Thursday, Dec. 7, beginning at 7 p.m. The parade will march down Main Street, with Christmas lights on display. 

DECEMBER 8 

BLACKSTONE CHRISTMAS PARADE — The Town of Blackstone will hold their annual Christmas parade on Friday, Dec. 8, beginning at 6 p.m. The event will start at Seay Park, located at 507 S. Main Street in Blackstone and end at Northwest Ace Hardware, located at 110 Inge Street. This year’s theme is The Night Before Christmas and there will be awards given out for best performance and best floats. 

DECEMBER 9-10 

HOLIDAY HERITAGE HOUSE TOUR — The home of Robert and Diana Clement, located at 2421 6th St. in Victoria, will be open to the public on Saturday, Dec. 9 and Sunday, Dec. 10, from 1 p.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Admission is $10 and you get a tour of the historic house, a log cabin on the grounds and the rest of the property. The event is sponsored by the Lunenburg County Historical Society. 

DECEMBER 9 

CHRISTMAS COUNTRY STYLE — The Kenbridge Auditorium, located at 511 E. 5th Avenue in Kenbridge, will host a Country Christmas variety show on Saturday, Dec. 9, full of local talent and musical group First Go Round. The event begins at 6 p.m. and tickets can be purchased on First Go Round’s Facebook page. 

CHRISTMAS CONCERT — The Commonwealth Chorale of Virginia will present its annual Christmas concert featuring something for everyone — from Handel’s ‘Messiah’ to Irving Berlin’s ‘White Christmas.” The second concert will be held on Saturday, Dec. 9 at Crewe United Methodist Church. That’s located at 607 E. Georgia Street in Crewe. The concert begins at 4 p.m. and is free. 

DECEMBER 17 

GUEST PREACHER — New Galilee Baptist Church, located at 4565 Plank Road in Kenbridge, will feature Rev. Angela Dickens from Blackstone as guest speaker for the Sunday, Dec. 17 service. Service starts at 11 a.m. 

DECEMBER 23 

CHRISTMAS DINNER — The Victoria Church of the Nazarene will hold a community Christmas dinner on Saturday, Dec. 23. The meal starts at 6 p.m. at the church, located at 1404 Sixth Street in Victoria. People are asked to come in the side door, across from the post office. Santa and his elves will be there, giving out toys for the children. It’ll be first come, first served until things run out. ONGOING 

CHURCH SERVICES — Bethany Baptist Church, located at 5968 Plank Road in Kenbridge, holds worship services on the second and fourth Sundays of the month. Service starts at 11 a.m. and masks are optional. 

CHURCH SERVICES — Victoria Evangelical Presbyterian Church, located at 1419 8th Street in Victoria, will hold worship services each Sunday, beginning at 9:30 a.m.
