The Lunenburg County Planning Commission is set to hold a public hearing for two items relating to the county’s comprehensive plan and the county’s zoning ordinance, including a proposed conservation easement for approximately 163 acres of property located on Route 49 in Lunenburg County and adding wedding and event venues under Lunenburg’s zoning ordinance.

The meeting will take place Aug. 21, 7 p.m. at the Lunenburg County Courthouse.

The first hearing will focus on a use modification review for a conservation easement, on approximately 163 acres of property in Lunenburg County located on three parcels of land. The parcels are 43.45, 51.574, and 66.94 acres respectively, located at the Rehoboth district, Route 49.

A conservation easement is “a legal agreement between a landowner and an eligible organization that restricts future activities on the land to protect its conservation values,” a definition from the Conservation Easement Handbook, The Trust for Public Land and The Land Trust Alliance, revised in 2005, cited.

The easement would be through the Virginia Outdoors Foundation.

The meeting is also set to discuss adding Wedding and Event Venues as a defined use in the zoning ordinance. Within that discussion, the public notice cited that planning commission members would also talk about “the recommended requirements for such a designation.”
