Turning Point Healing Retreat Center (TPHRC) and Lunenburg County Sheriff Arthur Townsend have joined together to provide three seminars covering safety, both personal safety and community safety. Each of the Be SAFE seminars will be held in the town of Kenbridge at the Kenbridge Hall.

OARS is an acronym developed by Townsend. OARS stands for Observing, Assessing, Reacting, and Surroundings. Townsend said, “The first seminar will be geared to sharpening personal observational skills.” Townsend and his staff will participate in all the Be SAFE seminars. Townsend continued saying, “I anticipate a big turnout.” Information and bulletins about the first seminar, which will be held on Sept. 10, have been distributed throughout Lunenburg County. The seminar starts at 6:30 p.m. Everyone is invited to attend.

Turning Point Healing Retreat Center was established in 2016 by John and JoAnne Stugart. Their mission is to provide a wide range of holistic workshops, classes and modalities for the physical, mental and emotional empowerment of all participants. Their programs are for families and individuals impacted by trauma or addictions, those experiencing pain and facing physical challenges, and those who seek a new path for personal growth. JoAnne said “while working with Sheriff Townsend I realized what a benefit sharpening our observational skills would be for individuals and businesses alike. In today’s world we all need to observe and assess our surroundings. These seminars will definitely benefit the community we live in and also improve one’s observational skills,” said JoAnne. She recommends everyone bring something to write on, as the information will be important to keep.

Mark your calendars for Seminar’s 2 and 3. Seminar 2 will be held on Oct. 8 and will discuss scams and protecting your personal/ individual identification. Seminar 3 will be held on Nov. 12 and will cover all aspects of personal safety.
