William Roger Crawley

Roger was born to Mary Ola Lang on January 12, 1949 in Lunenburg County, Virginia.

He was educated within the Lunenburg County School System.

He was baptized and joined the Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, Kenbridge, Virginia where he remained a member until his death.

In June 1977, Roger married Mary Betty Hite of Kenbridge, VA and to this union two children were born.

Roger held various occupations with different employers in Lunenburg, Mecklenburg, and Dinwiddie counties. Most recently he was employed with Kenbridge Supply (Ace Hardware) of Kenbridge, VA for over 15 years until his retirement.

Roger never met a stranger and was always willing to lend a helping hand. He enjoyed dancing, listening/playing music, spending time with family and friends, baseball, and cutting grass.

On Wednesday October 2, 2019, God called home our beloved William Roger Crawley, better known as “Roger.” He departed this life peacefully at his home in Victoria, Virginia.

Preceding Roger in death is his mother, Mary Ola Lang and brothers Jerry Crawley and Alvin Lang.

Roger leaves to cherish his memories wife Mary Betty, two loving and devoted children, Rodney Crawley and Tiara Crawley; grandson, Jaelen Crawley; sisters, Theressa Lee, Mary Etta Boose, and Carrie Price (Charles); brother Allen Lang III; sisters-in-law, Shirley Dow, Margaret Felder, Annie Garner (Carl), Ella Hite, Inell Hite and Annette Burrell; brothers-in-law: William Hite (Mary Alice) and George Hite (Angela); and a host of nieces, nephews and cousins.

Roger had many friends whom he cherished dearly and even considered some family; he shared a special brotherly bond with James Jones, James Smith, Ricky Webb, Ralph Lewis, Calvin Bridgeforth, Mike Moore and Melvin Yancey.

Funeral services were conducted Saturday, October 12 at Mt. Bethel Baptist Church, Kenbridge, with the Rev. C.L. Hobbs, Jr. pastor. Interment was in the church cemetery.

S.P. Jones and Son Funeral Home, Kenbridge, served the family.
