Lewis Allen Hardy, the 11th of 13 children was born to the late Ethel V. Hardy Astrop and Deacon Thomas Hardy in Lunenburg County, VA on January 6, 1929. (Herbert Hoover was President and it was during the depression). He departed this earth on January 30, 2020 at 12:00 p.m. at VCU Community Health Center in South Hill, VA.

Lewis joined and was baptized at the Bethany Baptist Church at a young age. He was a Deacon for many years, and attended church faithfully until his health started to fail. He was educated in the Lunenburg County Schools, where he would walk miles to get to school each day.

During his life he worked several jobs, they included: Imperial Processing, the Tobacco Company, Victoria Supply Company, Town of Victoria, Burkeville Veneer, school bus driver, and finally Diemolding Corporation from which he retired after twenty-five years. He was also an adequate farmer: he raised pigs, chickens, cows and also gardens. He along with his young sons would work from sunrise to sunset. He instilled great work ethics in his children. Later in life Lewis took on another job, opening and closing the laundromat in Kenbridge, VA.

You would find Lewis sitting in the parking lot of Food Lion, Timmy’s and Little B. He would get his enjoyment sitting and watching the cars go by. If he wasn’t there he would be home sitting on his front porch playing with his two dogs that he loved dearly. They were a part of his family, during his last days, he made it known that he wanted his dogs taken care of.

Lewis married Christine Bell on January 25, 1951 and to this union seven children were born (one son, Robert preceded him in death).

He leaves to mourn: his wife of sixty-nine years, Christine; six children, Phyllis (Eugene) Feggins, Howard (Veronica) Hardy, Willie L. Hardy, Doris (George) Blackwell, Marline (Timothy) Ingram, Johnny (Teresha) Hardy; one sister, Pattie Miller; ten grandchildren; seven great grandchildren; a host of nieces, nephews, cousins and friends.

Funeral services were held Saturday, February 8 at Bethany Baptist Church, Kenbridge, with the Rev. Carlton Clark, pastor. Interment was in the church cemetery.
