The resignation of Danny Thompson from the Kenbridge Town Council has left a vacancy the mayor said should be filled rather quickly.

Virginia Code specifies that vacancies may be filled by a qualified voter of the town with a majority vote of the remaining members of the board within 45 days of the vacancy.

Kenbridge Mayor Emory Hodges said he hopes to fill the vacancy at the board’s March meeting.

“We would hope to have some recommendations from council members and try to decide something at the next meeting,” Hodges said.

An announcement stating Thompson had resigned from his council position was recently posted on the town’s website.

“Danny has chosen to step down from his seat after giving the town many years of faithful, knowledgeable and a common sense approach to the daily business,” the announcement said.

Thompson’s term has two years remaining.
