Strong turnout for club championship

The 2020 Lunenburg Country Club Championship drew a solid crowd of golfers to Kenbridge over the weekend, with Cal Williams emerging as the championship flight winner after shooting a two-day, 36-hole score of 135.
“It went fairly smoothly,” Tournament Director Cole Williams said of the event. “It was a good turnout, better turnout than we’ve had in recent years.”

There were 17 golfers competing in the first round, which was played Saturday, July 18.
Cole Williams said he felt like the COVID-19 pandemic contributed to the larger field of golfers, who likely were happy for the opportunity to get out of the house and participate.
After the first 18-hole round, the participants with the top eight scores were organized into the championship flight for the second round Sunday, July 19. Those outside the top eight formed what was called the first flight.
Cal Williams shot a 64 on Saturday and a 71 on Sunday to win the championship flight. Ed Wilkins came in second, shooting a first-round 70 and a second-round 67 for a two-day score of 137. Richard Hite placed third with a 141 two-day score, shooting a 68 and then a 73.
Chip Parrish won the first flight, shooting a 79 in round one and a 73 in round two for a 152 overall score. Placing second with a 154 two-day score was Sam Bacon, who shot a 78 Saturday and a 76 Sunday. A two-day score of 157 from James Rudd was good for third. He first shot a 77 and then an 80.
