Throughout his time at Kenston Forest, Gergely Hudak has been among the team leaders in receptions, touchdowns and overall yards. Switch gears to the defensive side and the story is about the same. The 6’7 senior had 74 tackles and 11 sacks just this past season. Now he’ll be suiting up for a new squad. On Wednesday, Feb. 14, Hudak signed a letter of intent to play football on the Division I level, at Dartmouth College. 

The Ivy League college and Hudak made history on Wednesday, as he became the first Hungarian citizen to sign with a Division I college football program. 

“Gergo is a team player,” said Kenston Forest Head Coach Joe Kaiser. “He leads by example and we are all extremely proud of this major accomplishment that he has achieved.”

Hudak wasn’t just a two-way star on the football field for Kenston Forest. He also suited up for the school’s basketball team, averaging 5 rebounds and 2.9 points per game. At Dartmouth, however, he plans to focus on just one sport, saying he’s aiming to break into the starting lineup this coming fall. He’ll arrive to a team that came on strong at the end of the season. Dartmouth went 6-4 this year, starting off slow. But they ended the season on a three-game winning streak, scoring a combined 91 points during that period, while only giving up 48 total. 

A big day for Gergely Hudak, parents 

It was also a big day for Hudak’s parents, father Lajos and mother Eva. They got to watch him sign his national letter of intent, officially becoming the first Hungarian-born Division I college football player. They also got to hear him talk about his major, which currently is set to be International Studies. 

Meanwhile, with the signing, Kenston Forest continues a streak of its own. The school continues to send players to the Division I, Division II and Division III. 

“Kenston Forest and (our) coaching staff have an impressive track record of sending players to the collegiate level since (we) arrived on campus,” Kaiser said in a statement. “The trend has continued with this recent placement.” 

Dartmouth starts off their season this fall against Fordham at home, before taking on Merrimack College and Penn.
