West Columbia, SC.  Jerry Heflin Wingfield, age 72, went to be with his Savior on January 5, 2016.  Born in Tullahoma, Tennessee in 1943, Jerry was the oldest child of Luther Harris and Myrtle Heflin Wingfield.  He is survived by his beloved wife of 48 years, Marilee Copeland Wingfield.  He leaves behind his children, Scott Heflin Wingfield (Lee) of Leesburg and Jennifer Wingfield Smith (Mike) of Lexington, SC, formerly of Kenbridge.  He was the cherished “Bop” to his five grandchildren:  Graham Copeland Smith, Andrew Parrish Wingfield, Emory Caroline Smith, John Halaas “Jack” Wingfield, and Luke Timothy Heflin Wingfield.  He is also survived by his sisters, Dianne W. Smith (Bob) of Amelia, Amy W. Rockwood of San Antonio TX, and Karen W. Schumaker (Chuck) of Kenbridge.  Jerry also leaves behind his “Norwegian son” Lasse Halaas (Ellen) and family Fredrik and Vibeke of Kolbotn, Norway.

Until recently, Jerry lived his entire life in his hometown of Kenbridge, VA where he graduated from Kenbridge High School in 1961.  He went on to earn his degree from Virginia Polytechnic and State University.  He was the owner and operator of L.H. Wingfield Roofing and Metal Company from 1982 until his retirement in 2012, a family business that thrived for three generations.  Throughout his life, Jerry was passionate about music and guitar, history, woodworking, writing, and football, but he received his true calling when he accepted Jesus as his savior in 1991.  Jerry was a member of Kenbridge Baptist Church.  He served the Lord faithfully for 25 years as a Sunday School teacher, lay speaker, Bible study leader, and Emmaus team member, and he truly lived out the Great Commission (Matthew 28: 16-20).

A celebration of Jerry’s life will be held on Saturday, January 16, 2016 at Clarke Funeral Home in Kenbridge.  Visitation will be held at 11:00, followed by the service at 12:00.  After the service, the family will receive guests at the home of Dr. and Mrs. Mike Smith, 306 Old Plank Road, Kenbridge.  In lieu of flowers, please consider memorial donations to the Friends of the Ripberger Public Library, P.O. Box 46, Kenbridge, VA  23944. Online condolences may be sent by visiting: www.clarkefh.com
