Rites held for Willie L. McAllister

Mrs. Willie L. McAllister was born on September 23, 1922 in Lunenburg County Virginia to Robert Scott and Gertrude Callahan Maddox. She was the third oldest of nine children.

She received her early education in the public schools of Lunenburg County. After graduating from high school she moved north and worked several jobs.  Her last employment was manager of housewares at Sears and Roebuck in Boston, Massachusetts.

After retirement she moved back to her home in Kenbridge, Virginia. She enjoyed country living, gardening, and working in her church and community. She also led and walked in many civil right marches in Lunenburg County.

She married Earl H. McAllister, and from this union, one son Earl V. McAllister, II was born and was blessed with one adopted daughter, Bethal McAllister.

She entered into eternal rest on January 10, 2016 at Heritage Hall Healthcare Center Blackstone, Virginia.

She is preceded in death by her parents, Robert and Gertrude Maddox; siblings:  Alfred, Victoria, Grace, Walter Scott, William, and Hauzia.

She leaves to mourn: her son, Earl(Edna)McAllister, II., Bethal McAllister, granddaughter, Lucretia; grandsons Joseph III and Matthew Pankey, one great-grand  son, Jamari Pankey, one sister Gloria (Gilbert) Prather, one brother, Elvoyd Maddox, two sisters-in-law, Lonell and Shirley Maddox,  sister-in-Christ, RoseAnn Sweetney; and a host of nieces and nephews other relatives and friends.

Rev. Carlton Clark led the eulogy. The interment was held at Maddox Family Cemetery on Thursday, January 14.
