Rites held for Irene A. Young

Irene A. Young, daughter of the late William and Sarah Bagley Glasgow was born June 30, 1930 in Lunenburg County, Virginia.

Irene received her education in the public school system of Lunenburg County, Virginia.

She was baptized into fellowship of the First Baptist Church Victoria, Virginia.

She later joined Heavens Haven Int’L Church Victoria, Virginia where she was a faithful member and did whatever she could to promote the growth of the church. She was a loved mother of the church.

Irene was a “great” cook. She loved seeing family and friends enjoy a meal she prepared. She worked for many families in the Victoria Community. She retired for a while, was restless and went back to work for Tommy and Rose Wright, who loved her cooking. She did this up until a week before her illness. She also loved to walk, which she did on a regular basis.

Irene was married to Solomon Young, who preceded her in death.

Also proceeded in death by; 5 brothers, Bernard, Everette, John, Ralph and William, Jr. (Bud); 4 sisters, Lillian, Elizabeth, Mary, and Marjorie.

Irene was called to her eternal rest on Thursday, May 12, 2016 at Johnston Willis Hospital in Richmond, Virginia.

She leaves to morn: three daughter; Lorriane Hawkins of Victoria, Virginia, Denise Young of Washington, DC, and Shelia Thompson (Herman) of Richmond, Virginia, two sons, Robert Tunnell (Mary) of Victoria, Virginia and Michael Robinson (Betty) of Richmond, Virginia, three sisters, Bernice Russell of Philadelphia, PA, Ola White of New York, and Ann Ashby of Georgia, one brother, Clyde Glasgow (Margie) of Victoria, Virginia, and a host of other relatives and friends.

Services were held on Friday, May 20 at the People’s Community Center in Victoria. S.P. Jones & Son Funeral Home was in charge of arrangements.
