Rites held for Riley Winfred McDaniel

Riley Winfred McDaniel, 68, passed away on November 15, 2016. He was born on February 25, 1948, in Farmville, to D. Franklin McDaniel and Pearl Burns Hendrickson McDaniel. Dickie grew up in Blackstone. He graduated from Blackstone High School in 1967. After high school, he enlisted in the Marine Corps and served in Vietnam until February 1970.
He was awarded a Purple Heart as well as a Bronze Star with a Combat V. He worked his way up in the U.S. Civil Service to a Supervisor, where he worked for 30 years. He retired in 2003.
Dickie married Marilyn Guill in 1980, in Danville. They were happily married for 36 years. Dickie was a member of Crenshaw UMC. He enjoyed having a good time, cooking, listening to music, and living in Blackstone. In his lifetime, he received many awards at work as well as civic recognition.
He is survived by his spouse, Marilyn; his sons, Richard H. McDaniel (Vickie) of Kenbridge and Ryan G. McDaniel (Teresa); his brother, Lowry Lee (Mari); his grandchildren, Joseph, Thomas, and Olivia; his aunts, cousins, niece Nikole (Buck) Johnson, nephews, and other relatives. Dickie was preceded in death by his brother, Wayne, and his parents.
Funeral services were held at Amelia Veterans Cemetery November 18. The family received friends and relatives following the service at Crenshaw United Methodist Church, Blackstone.
