Closings and cancellations

A winter weather advisory from the National Weather Service cautions that people in the Lunenburg County area may experience wet snow and accumulation.

“A mix of rain and snow is expected by late today into tonight,” the advisory cited. “A change to all snow is possible…especially west of the (Interstate 95) and I-85 corridors tonight. A couple of inches of snow accumulation is possible on colder or grassy surfaces. Roads will likely remain mainly wet.”

Victoria:

Victoria Town Manager Rodney Newton confirmed the Lunenburg County Christmas Parade has been cancelled and will not be rescheduled. Small Town Christmas, taking place Saturday, will continue as planned, Newton said.

Lunenburg:

Lunenburg County Public Schools (LCPS) has stated that all afterschool activities will be cancelled Friday night and Saturday. LCPS will be closing secondary schools at 1 p.m. Friday, and elementary schools will be closing at 1:30 p.m.

Central High School’s varsity and junior varsity girls and boys basketball games originally slated for Friday evening have been rescheduled for Wednesday night. The sites and game times will be the same.

Additionally, Central’s Fall Sports Recognition Night has been postponed until Thursday.

Prince Edward:
Prince Edward County Schools have cancelled all afterschool activities and school-sponsored events for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.

Buckingham:

Buckingham County High School has cancelled all afterschool activities and school-sponsored events for Friday, Saturday and Sunday.
