Miniature Container Garden contest

Published 5:52 am Tuesday, October 13, 2015

Gardening enthusiasts can participate in the South Central Fair, in Chase City, this month by entering the Miniature Container Garden contest in the Agriculture Building. Lovers of plants and gardening are encouraged to give the contest a try.

Entries will be divided into adult and youth, within three categories for the entries:

1. Moss Garden (moss must be the dominant plant, can include other plants and accessories), 2. Fairy Garden (must include a figurine, such as fairy, gnome, angel, or human) and 3. Oriental Garden (done in an oriental manner).

Contest rules: Must include live plants (no artificial plants); no rule on size or scale, but try to limit your container size to 20” deep and wide and 8-10” high, so it can fit on shelves for viewing and you can carry it in; include accessories that enhance a scene (such as house, bird bath, furniture, rocks, bridge, garden arch, walkway, etc); can include self-contained battery-operated water feature or lights; and no electricity will be available.

Do not use real flames.

Please bring entries on Sunday, between 1-5 p.m., or Monday between 9 a.m. and 5 pm.

Nurseries and hobby stores now carry plants and/or accessories for miniature container gardens.

This will be a fun display that the public will appreciate and the community will enjoy.
