DECEMBER 31

YOUTH WATCH NIGHT SERVICE, 8 p.m. at Mayflower Baptist Church, which will also hold its regular watch night service at 10:30 p.m. The youth service is for the Midway Sunday School Union, encompassing Flat Rock, Mayflower, Mt. Bethel and Rosebud Baptist churches. Minister Melissa Hymon will speak at the youth service.

JANUARY 1

FIRST DAY HIKES AT HIGH BRIDGE, 2 p.m. A Ranger will guide a short easy hike across High Bridge and back. Total length of the hike is approximately 1 mile. At 3 p.m. a more strenuous hike will begin that guides participants to a rarely visited part of the park along an abandoned rail line constructed to divert traffic when High Bridge was out of service for maintenance in 1870. Total distance is almost 2 miles and varies from easy to strenuous in places. The Friends Group for the Park will be present with refreshments and a warm campfire.

JANUARY 11

BLOOD DRIVE, 1 p.m.-6 p.m., Kenbridge Emergency Squad, Inc., 915 E. 5th Ave., Kenbridge.

JANUARY 15

COAT DRIVE, 10 a.m.-2 p.m. at Mt. Ellis Baptist Church in Keysville. The drive is sponsored by The Kappa Rho Omega chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority. The community is requested to donate new and used coats, hats, gloves, scarves and other winter items for children and adults. The drive will run from now until Jan. 15.
