The Lunenburg County Public Library System (LCPLS) will celebrate Black History Month with book displays that highlight the contributions and achievements of African Americans this month.

“If you are a teacher or community leader looking for educational resources, LCPLS can work with you to create lesson plans and events during the month. If you need books, periodicals or DVDs, LCPLS staff are happy to assist,” library officials said in a press release. “LCPLS also offers printing and copying services for students for 1 cent per page.”

“If you enjoy magazines, check out the online editions that are available through Zinio, a digital resource for periodicals. If you enjoy fashion, cars, cooking or current events, Zinio has a magazine for you,” library officials said. “The service is free and you can sign up through the LCPLS website at www.lunenburglibraries.com. The magazines can be read on most digital devices and typically offer 4-5 months of archived issues.”

During February, LCPLS will continue to display artwork from Nancy Christin in the community room of the Victoria branch.

“Nancy retired to the Kenbridge area after working for over 30 years in the federal government. She began painting after taking classes in the Bob Ross style.”

According to the release, Ross was the host of the popular “Joy of Painting” TV show on public television. Nancy’s displayed artwork features landscapes and wildlife.

The Ripberger branch community room will be displaying artwork from Kenbridge artist Jerry Seamster, who paints portraits using various media. His work will be displayed this month.

“Lunenburg has already had its first significant snowfall of 2017 and LCPLS reminds patrons of our inclement weather policy. In the event of significant winter weather, the library system will be closed the first day the Lunenburg County Schools are closed. Thereafter, the library will decide on a day-to-day basis to open or close based on road conditions. We encourage our patrons to call ahead if they are planning a library visit. The phone number for the Victoria branch is (434) 696-3416 and the Ripberger location in Kenbridge can be reached at (434) 696-3456.”

LCPLS reminds patrons it will be closed on Feb. 20in observance of President’s Day. The library will reopen on Feb. 21.
