A single-vehicle crash on Wednesday, March 29 sent one person to the hospital after her vehicle ran off the road, according to a press release from Virginia State Police.

At approximately 5:15 p.m., Trooper S.C. Hudson responded to a call reporting the crash on Oral Oaks Road in Lunenburg, the release said.

Police said a 2004 Hyundai Santa Fe, driven by Dorothy F. Epps, 64, of Lunenburg, was driving north of Oral Oaks Road about one half mile from the intersection of Route 40 when it ran off the right side of the road, police said, striking a mailbox.

“The driver overcorrected and ran off the left side of the road, striking two trees before the SUV overturned,” said Susan Rowland, Virginia State Police public relations coordinator.

Epps suffered serious injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment, the press release said.

She was reportedly not wearing a seatbelt at the time of the crash, according to police.

Police said a medical condition was a causative factor in the crash.

The crash remains under investigation.
