Walter Johnson III, of Victoria, was awarded the “Blue Jacket Of The Year Award” by  Capt. Melanie Merrick of his Naval Command in San Diego, Calif. Johnson has also just been promoted to HN3. The criteria for BJOY is: noteworthy achievements that contribute to the mission of the command; demonstrate sustained excellence in leadership, military bearing and personal behavior; demonstrate motivation, pride and patriotism; and participation in community affairs or off-duty activities that enhance the Navy’s image. Johnson is the son of Walt and Mary Pat Johnson, and the grandson of the late Spencer and Anna Ruth Powell.
